There’s something undeniably captivating about a lighthouse against a dramatic sky. This stunning image, that I recently captured, showcases the Great Beds Light in all its glory, silhouetted against a rising, almost fiery, moon.

The stark white tower of the lighthouse, with its weathered texture telling tales of time and tide, stands resolutely against the deep blue of the evening sky. The moon, a vibrant orange orb, creates a surreal and almost dreamlike backdrop, its glow reflecting softly on the water’s surface.
The odd shape is due to the earth’s atmosphere. I love that it looks like a lit up incandescent light bulb.
Adding to the scene’s intrigue are the two smaller navigational markers, their red lights mirroring the moon’s hue. They stand like sentinels, echoing the steadfastness of the lighthouse itself.

This image is a testament to the beauty and power of nature, captured with some planning, cooperation from mother nature and through a long lens. It’s a reminder of the vital role lighthouses play in guiding mariners, and the enduring allure of the sea.
The lighthouse was added to the New Jersey Register of Historic Places and National Register of Historic Places in 2008.
