Last Saturday we concluded another successful HDR (high dynamic range) Roamin’ with Roman  photography workshop at Gillette Castle located in East Haddam, CT. I served in the role of co-leader and Anthony assisted in other areas in order to keep things running like a well oiled machine.

We had a terrific group of participants, including one that flew in on the red eye from San Francisco to attend the workshop. Roman and I  did very little photographing, since we had a full house, or should I say… castle as far as the maximum amount of participants that we allow in the workshop. By keeping the number of participants to a manageable amount, we are able to attend to each individual in areas they may need instruction or guidance with.

That has been Roman’s philosophy since the inception of his Photo Tour company many years ago. The predominant goal is to ensure that each participant receives adequate and personalized instruction and that can only be accomplished by limiting the number of participants.

We concentrated on guiding the participants around the three floors of the medieval type castle and among some of the things, helping  with compositions and how to properly expose for the high dynamic range that is found in many areas inside the castle.

It is critical to ensure that you capture the entire tonal range properly, in order to produce a good tonemapped HDR image.

We were sorry to have to exclude clients that wanted to attend the workshop since it was already full. Therefore they had to be placed on a list and we will be having yet another one this year in order to accommodate them. The details will be  forthcoming.

It was great fun working with them and even more satisfying and rewarding was having them express their satisfaction and appreciation at the end of the workshop. That feeling is truly priceless.
