I photographed all of the images from the Silk Mill, located in Lonaconing, Maryland during our December 2012 visit. I used my full frame Canon EOS 5-D MIII along with my Canon 24-70mm lens. I bracketed all of my exposures and tone mapped them using Nik Software HDR Efex Pro 2 software. I used Topaz Adjust for further refining and I converted the black and white image with the use of selective color with the new Topaz BW Effects 2.
The Silk Mill is the last standing silk mill in the United States. Its present deteriorated state is full of great photographic opportunities especially HDR (high dynamic range) images. I enjoyed being able to capture a piece of the past, when more than 50 years ago the mill ceased its operation. The mill was left intact and when you walk in it gives you a sense of how time had been stopped.
I am looking forward to our return visit on April 14, 2013. Where once again we will have another opportunity to capture some more moments in time. We have a small group of talented photographers and a fun day will be had by all.
