Intimate Sacred Lotus Flowers
The Sacred Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) flower from the scientific family classification (Nelumbonaceae) is one of my favorite flowers to photograph due to it’s striking beauty and elegance.
Nelumbo nucifera is known by numerous common names including Indian Lotus, Sacred Lotus, Bean of India, Chinese Waterlily or simply Lotus, is one of two species of aquatic plant in the family Nelumbonaceae. A common misconception is referring to the lotus flower as a water lily (Nymphaea), which is an entirely different plant, as can be seen in the center of the flowers.
Aside from it’s beauty, the Sacred Lotus Flowers posses some interesting properties as well. The beautiful aquatic plant has been cultivated in Asia for more than 3,000 years. It has been used as a food source as well as for medicinal purposes. Another interesting fact is that according to researchers that the Lotus has the remarkable ability to regulate the temperature of its flowers to within a narrow range just as humans and other warm blooded animals do.
My Sacred Lotus flower photographs from this post, as well as others in my artist gallery are available for online sale, as fine art prints and for stock image licensing.
