Happy Easter from the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart

I spent the day yesterday photographing the exterior and interior of the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, located in Newark, New Jersey. It was part of a photography assignment. I was supposed to have done this months ago but due to conflicts in schedules it wasn’t until yesterday that I was able to get there. I think it worked out great since I was able to photograph it during the Holiest Week in the Catholic Faith.

Since my recent Church blog post have received so many hits, I thought I would share a few today from the Majestic Catheral of the Sacred Heart.

I photographed “A View to Saint Ann’s Chapel” thru the cross wood carving of a kneeling stool. Saint Ann was mother to Mary and grandmother to Jesus Christ.

All of these images where captured with the new Canon EOS 5D Mark III that I got from Gary Farber at Hunts Photo and Video. I am truly impressed with the cameras performance. The ceiling image below was captured at 6400 ISO handheld at f/8, 1/60 sec. I applied a 50% Luminance Noise Reduction in Adobe Lightroom with a 50% detail amount.

Construction of the Cathedral began in the late 1800s’ but it did not officially open its doors to the public until 1976. It was a historic event and on that date the Cathedral was filled to capacity.

State and National recognition have been accorded to this Majestic Cathedral. The New Jersey Historical Society designated the Basilica as a historic landmark and soon after it was designated as a National Historic Site.

In my opinion to call it Majestic is an understatement. The French Gothic Architectural influence is quite impressive. I honestly felt that I was photographing in Heaven, or as close to it as one can get.

I hope to share a few more images of the past 1K images I created soon. But as most of you know… I am always playing catch up.

I would also like to take this opportunity to send wishes for  a very Happy Easter to all of family and friends that celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
