My Favorite Fall Moments from a âSubduedâ Season in NY & NJ
This fall, like many of you, I noticed something a little different. The vibrant, âknock-your-socks-offâ peak colors that define a classic Northeast autumn felt a bit more elusive this year in parts of New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. The usual fiery reds and blinding oranges were, for the most part, a touch more muted, the golds a little less brilliant.
Mainly due to a dry fall with little rain and warmer than usual temperatures.
Here are some of my favorite photographs from this past fall, moments where even in a âsubduedâ season, the magic of autumn shone through

Yet, despite a season that might not go down in the record books for its sheer chromatic intensity, nature, as it always does, still managed to surprise and awe me. It forced me to look closer, to find beauty in the subtle shifts, the unexpected pops of color, and the enduring spirit of the landscape.
This fall taught me a valuable lesson: even when the âpeakâ isnât what we expect, the beauty of nature is always there, waiting to be discovered. Sometimes, you just need to adjust your lens and look a little closer.
