There’s something deeply calming about winter along the bay.
On this cold afternoon into night, the pier stretches quietly into a mosaic of drifting ice, its lamps glowing softly against the blue haze of dawn. A lone trawler eases through fractured sheets of frozen water, its warm cabin lights a small beacon in an otherwise hushed scene.
Ice transforms the familiar into something abstract — broken plates of silver and slate, shifting gently with the tide. The stillness feels amplified this time of year, as if the bay itself is taking a deep breath.
Moments like these remind me why I love photographing aerial winter landscapes. They’re subtle. They’re quiet. And they invite you to slow down, look closer, and appreciate the beauty hiding in the cold.
Sometimes, the most powerful scenes aren’t loud at all — they simply wait for you to notice.
