There’s something magical about photographing the Tappan Zee Bridge after dark. Its sweeping cables, towering structures, and reflections on the Hudson River create endless opportunities to play with light, color, and perspective.
In these images, I wanted to capture three very different moods. The first pairs the bridge’s dramatic cables and illuminated towers during during blue hour, when the last light of day meets the colorful illumination of the structure. The soft, glass-like water and reflections add a sense of calm to the powerful geometry of the bridge.
The second focuses on the repeating lines and reflections beneath the bridge, where warm orange and vivid green lighting transform the architecture into an almost abstract scene.
The final images capture closer views of the bridge with the crescent moon, highlighting the intricate cables, illuminated towers, and the quiet beauty of the night sky.
Together, these photographs show why the Tappan Zee Bridge continues to inspire me—not simply as a landmark, but as a canvas for light, color, and atmosphere.
